LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE THE GAMING INDUSTRY MORE
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCED GAMES? YES, WE CAN!
Ludo Fact acts ecologically consciously for over 25 years and for
more than two decades we invest in renewable energy.
Ecology is a driving force for the entire corporation and this is why
Ludo Fact’s game manufacturing in Jettingen-Scheppach and in all our subsidiaries are the most environmentally friendly produced games worldwide.
We want to show you our commitment for nature with this sites. We want to invite you to work with us towards this goal: Let the board game industry do their part in preserving our planet!
Long distance transportation is a great burden on the environment.
Ludo Fact established and mainly uses regional sources for raw material.
Our factories in Germany are only 80 miles (120 kilometers) apart and most of our suppliers are less than 35 miles (50 kilometers) away from the respective factory.
Long distance transportation? Ludo Fact avoids it!
„Transport accounted for about 23% of global carbon dioxide emissions in 2010.”
World Health Organization, 2014
„The transportation sector is one of the largest contributors to anthropogenic U.S. greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. (…) Transportation accounted for the largest portion (29%) of total U.S. GHG emissions in 2017.“
United States Environmental Protection Agency, 2017
„The fifteen largest maritime vessels of the world emit more harmful sulphur oxides than all 1.25 billion passenger cars worldwide.”
Naturschutzbund Deutschland, 2012
„A single ship produces as much carbon dioxide as 84.000 cars and as much sulphur oxides as 376 millon cars.”
Die Zeit, 2017
SUSTAINABLE RESOURCE: PAPER
Ludo Fact works exclusively with environmentally responsible suppliers who ensure the greatest environmental safety of the resource paper.
The paper industry is very energy-intensive, however most of the required energy is produced in-house via renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. Ludo Fact uses cardboard with the highest possible percentage of recycled material – that saves resources and reduces energy usage.
„The recycling rate of waste in paper and tuck box production is 85.8%.”
„Sustainability: a principle in forestry that states that no more wood can be removed that can grow back naturally.”
„In 1990 the paper industry used 49% waste-paper, 2017 the rate was 75%.”
„Cogeneration plants reduce emissions by four million tons of CO and can thus make an important contribution to achieving savings targets.”
Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy (BMWI), 2020
SUSTAINABLE RESOURCE: WOOD
Production of wooden pieces for games is done even more locally than paper.
Ludo Fact exclusively uses wood from sustainable forestry. Suppliers are FSC- or PEFC certified, and so is Ludo Fact.
All colors and coating are water based and non-toxic.
Wood? Any day!
„Forests help to regulate the global climate, absorbing nearly 40% of the fossil-fuel emissions we humans produce …”
„In recent decades, the earth’s forest cover has increased by 7%.”
Süddeutsche Zeitung, 2018
„Forest for all forever.”
Motto FSC Deutschland
„Every year, forests in Germany produce about 25 to 38 million tons of oxygen. That is about one to one and a half times the amount that all the inhabitants of Germany need to breathe in one year.”
Forestry in Germany, 2019
One of the biggest challenges is the carbon neutral production of electricity. Ludo Fact is a pioneer in this field and invests in renewable energy since 1996.
Vento Ludens, Ludo Fact’s affiliate, has realised projects that produce 130 million kilowatt hours electricity with wind-, water- and solar power plants, enough to supply 130000 people – that is a city the size of Ulm; Topeka; KS; or Newport in Wales.
A total of 1.5 million kilowatt are produced with solar panels on top of our factory in Jettingen-Scheppach. That is 70 % of our yearly energy requirement in that facility.
Ludo Fact and Ludo Packt use exclusively green energy.
Power? Yes, but green!
„Renewable energy is the fastest-growing energy source in the United States, increasing 100% from 2000 to 2018.”
Center For Climate And Energy Solutio, 2019
„Globally, the world produced approximately 5.9 TWh of modern renewable energy in 2016. This represents a 5 to 6-fold increase since the 1960s.”
University of Oxford, 2018
„Most of today’s carbon emissions are still caused by fossil fuels … the power industry is responsible for the greatest share of these emissions – by far. In 2017 the share was 38.7%.”
„German power supply becomes greener every year. The share of renewable energy within the power mix increases continuously: from six percent in 2000 to 43% in 2019.”
Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie, 2019
It is our desire to replace plastic in board games. Our R&D department takes every effort imaginable to replace petroleum based plastic.
A great example are vacuum trays. If required, we can produce those now from recycled PS which still complies to all regulations. But even better: we can use high quality cardboard and e-flute material to create trays with various pockets to hold game parts.
The most recent success are flowpacks made from paper which can be reused as waste paper to produce new paper!
Plastic? Let’s avoid it!
„In a few years there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish. (…) The United Nations expect plastic waste to increase tenfold by 2050.”
Dr. Gerd Müller (Bundesminister für wirtschaftliche Entwicklung und Zusammenarbeit)
„In the 1950’s 1.5 million tons of plastic have been produced worldwide. In 2016 it was 348 million tons, and it is still increasing. Today we can find plastic everywhere: in rivers and lakes, soil, oceans and maritime organisms.”
„The plastic PVC is especially problematic because chlorine is used for its production. If PVC is incinerated at insufficiently high temperatures, toxic dioxin can form.”
„Plastic trash has become so ubiquitous it has prompted efforts to write a global treaty negotiated by the United Nations.”
National Geographic, 2019
Well, it is not that easy, we don’t have the universal solution yet. But environmentally conscious behavior is the basis of our business. Ludo Fact is one of the leading suppliers worldwide and games produced by Ludo Fact have the lowest carbon footprint in the entire industry.
In the next couple of years we will develop new products and new technologies in cooperation with our partners to come closer to our goal: to turn games into completely sustainable and ecological goods. Be part of it and contact Ludo Fact or one of our affiliates today and benefit from our advantage in innovation!
