ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCED GAMES? YES, THAT'S POSSIBLE!

For over 25 years Ludo Fact has been acting in an environmentally conscious way and for more than 20 years we have been investing in renewable energy.

Ecology is a driving factor for our Group and ensures that nowhere in the world is the production of games more environmentally friendly than in Jettingen-Scheppach and at the sites of our sister companies.

We explain Ludo Fact’s environmental management in more detail here. You’re invited to join us in making sure the games industry does its part to help save our planet.

SHORT TRANSPORT ROUTES

Long transportation routes result in a high environmental impact.
Ludo Fact obtains most of its raw materials from regional sources.

For example, the individual plants of our group members in Germany (Jettingen-Scheppach, Ulm, Gomaringen) are only 120 km apart.

Long transport routes? Not with Ludo Fact!

"With a share of 18.2% of greenhouse gas emissions, transport continues to be the third largest source of emissions in Germany (...) For example, emissions from commercial vehicles have increased by around 50% since 1990, as there are now significantly more trucks on German roads."

Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU), 2018

"Imported products for Germany consume 11 times more energy, emit 11 times more CO and consume 28 times more sulfur dioxide than domestic products."

nachhaltig-sein.info, 2014

"Accordingly, one ship produces as much COas 84,000 cars and as much sulfur oxide as 376 million."

The time, 2017

"Since 2014, transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions have been rising again. (...) This was mainly due to increasing road freight traffic and the associated increase in diesel fuel sales."

Federal Environment Agency, 2019

SUSTAINABLE NATURAL MATERIAL PAPER

Ludo Fact works exclusively with responsible suppliers who ensure maximum environmental compatibility of the raw material paper.

The paper industry is energy-intensive, but produces most of the energy it consumes itself. Ludo Fact uses cardboard with the highest possible percentage of recycled material, which conserves resources and reduces energy requirements.

Paper? At LUDO FACT sustainable!

"In the 28 EU countries, the recycling rate for paper and folding carton packaging waste is now 85.8%"

new-packaging.com, 2019

"Sustainability: forestry principle according to which no more wood may be felled than can grow back"

Duden.de, 2019

"The paper industry used just under 49% recovered paper in 1990, and about 76% in 2018"

Federal Environment Agency, 24.04.

"Combined heat and power plants yield emission reductions of four million tons of CO and can thus make an important contribution to achieving savings targets."

Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWI), 2020

SUSTAINABLE WOOD COMPONENTS

Wood production for games is even more regionally sourced than paper production. Wood is processed locally, and waste products are used directly to generate energy or are processed into organic, environmentally friendly fuel.

Ludo Fact uses only wood and paper from sustainable forestry. Most suppliers are FSC certified and Ludo Fact itself is FSC certified.

All paints and varnishes used are water-based and non-toxic.

Wood? At LUDO FACT sustainable!

"Germany is the No. 1 timber country in Europe; German forests have become more diverse. Our forest is managed sustainably."

Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture, 2019

"In recent decades, the Earth's forest cover has increased by 7%."

Süddeutsche Zeitung, 2018

"Forests Forever For All."

Motto of the FSC Germany

"Annually, the forest in Germany produces about 25 to 38 million tons of oxygen. That's about one to one-and-a-half times what all of Germany's residents need to breathe in a year."

Forestry in Germany, 2019

CLEAN POWER

One of the greatest challenges of our time is CO-free energy generation. Ludo Fact is a pioneer in this field and has been investing in renewable energies since 1996.

Projects implemented by our sister company vento ludens generate 130 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually from wind, hydro and solar power, enough to supply 130,000 people – a city the size of Ulm.

1.5 million kilowatt hours of this alone are generated with photovoltaic modules on the roof of the factory in Jettingen-Scheppach. This is about 70% of the factory’s annual electricity demand.

All German sites of the Ludo Fact Group (Ludo Fact, Ludo Packt, Friedmann Print Data Solutions and Höhn Display + Verpackung) exclusively use climate-compensated electricity!

Energy? Always clean with LUDO FACT!

"Wind energy has an increasing share of electricity generation in Germany. In 2018, it again accounted for the second-largest share of German electricity production, ahead of nuclear power and hard coal."

German Wind Energy Association, 2019

"In 2019, PV power plants with a nominal capacity of 3.9 GW were installed in Germany."

Fraunhofer ISE, 2020

"Most CO₂ emissions still come from the combustion of fossil fuels. (...) The energy industry has by far the largest share of CO₂ emissions. In 2017, it was 38.6%."

Tagesschau.de, 2019

"The power supply in Germany is becoming "greener" year by year. The share of renewable energies in electricity consumption is growing steadily: from around 6% in 2000 to around 43% in 2019."

Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, 2019

REDUCE PLASTIC

It is very close to our hearts to reduce the use of plastic as a gaming ingredient. No material is safe from our environmentally conscious technicians until we replace petroleum-based plastics.

Currently, we are already able to produce thermoformed parts from recycled polystyrene, which of course still meets all toy guidelines. An even better alternative is high-quality printed cardboard inserts made of laminated corrugated cardboard with various compartments for storing the game components.

The latest innovation introduced is flowpacks made of paper that can be completely recycled as waste paper.

Plastic? LUDO FACT helps to reduce it!

"In a few years, there will be more plastic in the world's oceans than fish. (...) The United Nations predicts that plastic waste in the oceans will increase tenfold by 2050."

Dr. Gerd Müller (Federal Minister for Economic Development and Cooperation)

"In the 1950s, about 1.5 million tons of plastic were produced worldwide each year. In 2016, it was already 348 million tons, and the trend is rising. Meanwhile, plastic residues can be found everywhere: in rivers, lakes and soils, in the oceans and in many marine animals."

Federal Environment Agency, 2019

"The plastic PVC is particularly problematic, as toxic chlorine is needed to produce it. If PVC is not incinerated hot enough, it can produce dioxins, which are extremely toxic."

Consumer advice center, 2019

"An estimated 380 tons of plastic washes down the Rhine into the North Sea every year. At the bottom of the North Sea alone, there is probably more than 600,000 cubic meters of trash, the equivalent of 1.5 times Cologne Cathedral."

Nabu, 2016

OUR WAY

No, it’s not that simple. We have not yet solved all the environmental problems of our industry. However, we put environmentally conscious actions in the foreground. Ludo Fact is at the forefront of the global industry in this regard. Already today, games produced by Ludo Fact have the smallest CO₂ footprint of any game manufacturer!

In the coming years, we will develop further innovative products and technologies in cooperation with our partners and achieve our goal of making games an all-round sustainable product step by step. Be part of it and contact Ludo Fact or one of our sister companies and benefit from our innovation and investment advantage.
